Sunday's message was presented by David Moore and titled “The Arab Spring."
David described his long-standing interest in the Middle East and his experiences studying and working in that area of the world. He explained what has come to be known as the Arab Spring, which began in Tunisia two years ago, when a food vendor in despair over losing his source of livelihood immolated himself, resulting in the people rising up in protest of their government and insisting on human rights and freedom. The movement spread next to Egypt, then Libya, Yemen, and other Emirates in the Persian Gulf. Currently the conflict continues in Syria. David gave us insight into the cultures, religions, and politics in that area from his unique perspective in having traveled widely in the Middle East in recent years. He reminded us that our 6th Principle stating that we support the goal of world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all, which inspires UU's to support this movement.
